Agents Irish and Whiskey #4
Tequila Sunrise is a quick novella full of action. It jumps back and forth in time, exploring how the relationship between Melissa Cruz and Daniel Talley came to be. A big surprise for the family is in store after an adventure on the new flagship.
The non-chronological storyline could have been clearer to me. Present to first meeting, to present, to 6 months ago, to 8 months ago, etc. It took me some time to piece it all together in my head. That said, I loved the story of their first meeting. Hilarious doesn’t begin to cover it! I get that it’s a novella, but the frequent no context references to what happened in the last book were annoying. It would have been smoother if I had recently read the previous three books; that’s on to me (I read them in Jan 2021).
I did find the ship hijacking to be tense and full of suspense. Mel knows how to kick some ass, and the descriptions of it were excellent. Jamie’s skill at delay and deception was evident. When the clock was counting down, I swear there was more external/internal dialogue than would have fit in that timeframe, and it made me sweat. So tense! I would have loved more technical detail about the ship and the tech, but that’s not what this story was supposed to be about.
Tequila Sunrise did what it was supposed to do. I enjoyed the first three books more because they were more independent and fully developed. Tequila Sunrise is a quick glimpse into Daniel and Melissa before the series returns to regular Aiden and Jamie programming with Angel’s Share in August 2024 . The next book in the series is a 53-page Wedding novella that I will skip. Not because I’m expecting it to be bad, but I tend to avoid Christmas/Wedding novellas unless I’m really into the series.
