When A Scot Ties the Knot – Tessa Dare | Book Review

Castles Ever After #3

When A Scot Ties the Knot is the reason I started the Castles Ever After series. I read an excerpt in the back of one of the Spindle Cove books, and it hooked me! The most substantial book in this trilogy, this book exceeded my expectations. The first two books contained a lot of similarities, but this one is entirely different. The only thing shared throughout the series is that the main character receives a castle via a legacy from an aging family friend.

Are the letters actually reaching someone real?! Considering Maddie used them like a journal, it must have been mortifying when Logan arrived on her doorstep, having read them all. I didn’t understand why he never wrote back; that seemed like an obvious step to advise her that her letters were being delivered. That would have ruined the story, though…

It was a slow burn, and the tension was kept high. Logan was quite respectful, though. His attempts to consummate the marriage were not brutish or overly coercive, Logan genuinely wanted her interest and consent. His devotion to his men and, ultimately, to Maddie was courageous. I was so relieved when Grant shook things off. Grant really was a bright spot in When a Scot Ties the Knot.

Great concept and good execution. When a Scot Ties the Knot is a fantastic twist on Regency romance, Logan and Maddie make a great pair. Fluffy, light and very low angst, this was my favourite book of the series.

Characters

Madeline Gracechurch – quiet, reserved, enjoys creating illustrations for naturalists. Doesn’t want a traditional marriage, or to lose her independance
Captain Logan MacKenzie – He’s supposed to be fictional, but apparently he’s real. Loyal to his men, and out to make sure everyone he cares about is okay.
Aunt Thea – Madeline’s Aunt. They live together in the remote castle, happily enjoying each others company
Grant – One of Logan’s men. He has no short-term memory and despite always being surprised at where he is, he’s absolutely lovely and sweet.
